Straighten Your Teeth With Traditional Braces
What are Braces?
Braces are metal or ceramic brackets that are glued to the teeth with dental composite. A wire is then secured to the brackets. The braces are "tightened" each visit by either placing bends on the wire or changing to a thicker wire to help reposition and realign them for a straighter, healthier smile. This traditional orthodontic option is ideal for kids, teens and even adults undergoing treatment. At our practice we use passive self ligating brackets.
Why are Braces needed?
We often recommend traditional braces to our patients needing extensive care or patients that won't be compliant with aligners. Some problems that braces can fix include:
- Overcrowding
- Crooked, misaligned teeth
- Malocclusion problems
- Uneven spacing and gaps
Who is a candidate for Braces?
Mostly every patient is a candidate for braces. If you have cavities or periodontal issues, then you cannot get braces until those issues are resolved.
What happens during treatment with Braces?
Orthodontic treatment begins with a complete consultation that involves x-rays, impressions and an exam. We want to get to know you or your child as well as the smile that needs to be straightened. We then affix brackets to the teeth and place a thin metal wire across these brackets. The wire is held in place by closing the door attached to the bracket. You will come in every 4-12 weeks in order to have the wiring adjusted to continue with treatment. Treatment using braces can take be anywhere from 6 months to 3+ years, depending on the specific patient. We do everything possible to ensure that your treatment is as comfortable and quick as possible while obtaining beautiful, straight results that will last.
